Abstract: The SMPTE Journal has in the past published a number of papers dealing with the history of our Society; however, most were concerned with standardization, never with such subjects as early management and the development of sections. This article is not intended to be a historic document based on research, but an informal reminiscence of events when our Society was beginning and growing, based on the reports of the meetings of our Board of Governors.
