Abstract: An extremely low-cost, all-digital real-time audio mixing, sweetening, and effects system designed for use directly in any on-line video editing suite is described in this article. The device conforms to the standard AES/EBU 48-kHz digital audio channels found on all D-1 and/or D-2 videotape recorders. It incorporates a realtime digital audio mixer with 16 channels of digital input and 4 digital outputs that features full dynamic memory and automation, in addition to a sophisticated digital audio workstation with over one hour of hard-disk storage of audio signals. The DREAM™ system was designed to provide more audio capability for the video post-production suite.
