- Abstract
- Recently, fiber optics technology has advanced considerably, and television applications have now become possible. Information transmission along an optical fiber cable makes use of the many advantages that characterize the optical fiber. The basics of light conduction along an optical fiber, and different types of fibers are illustrated. Light emitters and light detectors that are useful for fiber cable transmission are the LED and the laser diode emitter and the avalanche photodivide (APD) and the PIN photodiode light detector. The basic layout of a fiber cable circuit is rather simple. Its schematics are described. The application of optoelectronic transmission of camera output and camera control signals has been implemented for the KCA 100 camera. Time multiplex and frequency multiplex methods can be used in fiber optical signal transmission. Pulse frequency modulation (PFM) was chosen as the preferred system. An example of a practical application of optoelectronic signal transmission in two directions between camera and base station is illustrated.
