Abstract: An operational broadcast satellite system, which would provide television programming directly from a geostationary satellite for homes having television receivers equipped with a converter and a small antenna, is expected to be set up by Japan by the early 1980s. A design is described for a receiver suitable for this purpose; it is planned to be a low-noise, high-performance unit comparable in cost to conventional TV sets. Other topics covered include the image recovery theory (with consideration of the parametric effect of a mixer diode), the down-converter principles and construction, the low-cost highly stable local oscillator, and other sections of the receiver.
