Abstract: The first SMPTE Governors Training Seminar was held July 15, 1981, at the Eastman Kodak Company facilities in New York City. The idea for a Training Program for newly elected Governors, which would follow the format of the now well-established Training Seminar for Section Chairmen, was suggested to (then) Sections Vice-president Leonard Coleman at the first Chairmen's Seminar held in October 1979. “Why not'?” was Coleman's response. With the approval of the Governing Board of the SMPTE, Coleman, assisted by Lynne Robinson, began planning the program for the July 15 Seminar. Ms. Robinson is Manager, Conference Programming, Scheduling and Sections, at SMPTE Headquarters.
