Abstract: A new feature-length printing system is described. As an integral part of the cleaning operation, the negatives are wound on 18-in cores and assembled in a full-feature roll. A modular film winder is used for this operation. The modular winder is added to the printing machine. Corresponding full-length positive rawstock rolls are made up and spliced where necessary, with the splices falling exactly on the frame lines. A 64 K-byte 16-bit microcomputer controls the printer operation and provides constant machine-running information to the operator. Enumerated are the new system's advantages with respect to print quality, economic aspects, operational flexibility, and negative protection. The system has been in use since 1979.
