Abstract: This article discusses the inherent production problems arising when an actor or speaker is addressing an audience (the camera lens) and delivering long passages of dialogue. These problems are more difficult when the language is highly technical in nature and must be word-perfect. If the speaker attempts to memorize the script, many flubs can be expected, resulting in expensive and time-consuming re-takes while the speaker grows increasingly more tense and his delivery suffers. The use of cue cards prevents head close-ups, as it is apparent to the viewing audience that the speaker is looking to one side.
