The error-containing transport stream was decoded using a real-time MPEG-2 decoder in order to subjectively observe the effects of the errors on the video quality. We found that not all bit errors or cell losses cause visible degradation of decoded video. Furthermore, given the same bit error rate or ATM cell loss rate, it is desirable for the errors to be clustered rather than uniformly distributed.
