The advent of complex animation and computer graphic effects in film and television production has sparked a demand among consumers for even more sophisticated programs. Simultaneously, advances in broadcast technology will be making it possible for viewers to receive high-quality HDTV broadcasts and to have access to more channels, and thus more programs than ever before. To meet viewer demand for increased volume and more complex programming, studios and the production facilities that serve them must begin to work together in new and innovative ways. To meet the challenge of HDTV implementation and the 500-channel future, they must revamp their infrastructures to embrace digital technology. In both instances, they need to partner with manufacturers that understand both teleproduction and telecommunications technology. It is the merger of these two markets that will enable an effective migration to a digital production and broadcast world and make possible a collaborative network of facilities for the creation of advanced programming.
