The rapidly increasing array of new content types and formats that are leading to a new viewing and entertainment experience means that these service providers have to carefully manage and mediate the composition of their fixed transmission pipes. This paper describes the basics of a relatively new technology, called MPEG-2 stream transcoding, that is now being deployed to help with these tasks.",
