This paper presents an efficient method which allows the source splitting idea to be practically applied to video coding systems. The proposed method consists of (i) an iterative pairwise splitting algorithm for fast finding optimal splitting indices; (ii) a memory allocation algorithm for determining the Huffman table sizes; (iii) and an exhasutive search algorithm for determining the number of Huffman tables to be used.
