    "abstract": "French cinema theaters follow strict rules; there are two standards that must be followed when granting theater operation licenses. One standard is concerned with architectural considerations and the other movie reproduction parameters. These two standards undergo periodic revisions. The main goal behind these specifications is to ensure that movies are reproduced uniformly in all theaters while matching the intention of the creative team during the final check. Another goal is audience satisfaction and the avoidance of unnecessary physical or audio visual stress. The specifications listed in the standard related to movie reproduction include a uniformity formula. Counterexamples demonstrate problems with the validity of this uniformity. A new uniformity method of measurement is under study. The proposed method unifies projection and display systems in the same measurement. The projection vignetting effect is canceled using the current room and screen dimensions. The formula is also independent of the reproduction system’s dynamic range. Nine locations on screen are used as points of measurement. The proposed measurement of uniformity is based on a statistical measurement called the Kolmogorov–Smirnov (K–S) distance. It compares the current results with a standard statistical distribution. The type of distribution is chosen based on practical considerations.",

        "bio": "François Helt has more than 30 years of professional video and film experience with a background in mathematics, semantics, and filmmaking. Since 1991, he has been a research and development manager for special effects software teams, including film scanners and film printer drivers. He was a technical manager of the European project “Limelight,” from 1994 to 1997, which focused on designing a full digital film restoration system. From 1997 to 2002, he was the founder and chief executive officer of the DUST Company, Sophia Antipolis, France, specializing in digital film restoration and processing. From 2004 to 2006, he was the author of the software for automatic digital film restoration and designed software for color conversion and calibration software for digital cinema. He was a technical director of Doremi Technologies, Sophia Antipolis, France, Europe, from 2006 to 2012, and the chief scientific officer of Highlands Technologies Solutions, Sophia Antipolis, France from January 2013 to December 2016. He has been a scientific consultant for EclairColor, Paris, France since January 2017. He also designed the projection measurement system. His current interests include visual perception models, measurement theory, and philosophy of information.",

        "bio": "Hans-Nikolas Locher is the director of development at commission supérieure technique de l’image et du son (CST), Paris, France. The CST is a professional association of cinema, audiovisual and multimedia technicians, and artist technicians. He worked for years in the projection operation, as a development engineer, and with research laboratories of CNAM (Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers, Paris, France) and IRCAM (Institut de Recherche et de Coordination Acoustique Musique, Paris, France). He implemented software tools for testing and validation of digital cinema files and is the architect of the information system for monitoring the projections for the Cannes Film Festival. He is involved in the standardization process as Agence Française de Normalisation (AFNOR) commission CN 204 “cinématographie” member. Locher is the editor for the CEN TC 457 project team Digital preservation of cinematographic works. He is the convenor of WG4 presentation technologies in ISO/TC 36 Cinematography. He chaired the Interoperable Master Format (IMF) App#4 elaboration project at SMPTE.",
