This paper gives motivation for broadcasters to use WAN methods for moving media files. Several very compelling reasons for using WAN technology as part of a broadcast facility are outlined. A brief overview of WAN technology is given with emphasis on the salient points for the broadcaster. Six different WAN technologies are compared.
