    "abstract": "Television programs in color are now being produced regularly by major broadcasting companies, and the corresponding signals are being transmitted over both the local and intercity facilities of the Bell System to color TV transmitters. Although much publicity has been given to the advent of this rather astonishing new development, most of the articles have been either highly technical or intended for the newspapers. They have not provided an understanding of the system for intelligent engineers who are not able to devote sufficient time to the subject to master the more obscure technical details. This article is intended to fill a need felt in many quarters to answer a number of questions which have arisen concerning the generation of the signals and the manner in which they are used to produce a color picture.",
