Spectral response, linearity, uniformity, and frequency response of lead-sulfide cells are also discussed. At present most of the phototubes used in sound reproduction are caesium-oxide gas-filled tubes. Of late, however, following a publication by R. J. Cashman1 considerable interest has been shown by the motion picture industry in the lead-sulfide cell. In the past year some additional insight has been gained as to the problems arising with the application of these cells to sound reproduction and it seems that the motion picture industry should be apprised of some of these problems in order to design their future equipment.
