    "abstract": "For high-definition video and film, both symmetric (1-to-1) and asymmetric combinations of sources and timings are used for output genlock. This paper describes techniques being used in a system to lock both types of combinations. To simplify the numerical complexity of these timing relationships, a new mathematical notation (recently invented for describing digital audio timing relationships), called the “log prime” vector is introduced. This paper considers timing stability challenges for high-definition interfacing, and presents the genlock architecture of a high-definition I/O board now being used in multiprocessor computer servers and graphics supercomputers.",

        "bio": "2 Michael Poimboeuf is a SMPTE member. He earned B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and has worked in the audio and video industries since 1983. He is currently principal engineer at SGI, where he helped develop the digital audio and digital media synchronization architectures used in current Silicon Graphics computers. He participated in the design of four generations of SGI video products, including the SGI HD I/O board. Before joining SGI Poimboeuf worked at GVG/Tektronix in Grass Valley. Prior to that he was cofounder of Personics Corp., where he helped develop an electronic delivery system for recorded music, the first compressed audio CD-ROM, and the first faster than realtime CD-ROM drive. Prior to Personics he did research in electroacoustics. Poimboeuf is active in working groups of the AES and IEC Standards committees; He is a member of SMPTE I23, Committee on Television Image Technology, and the SMPTE DC28.2 Digital Cinema Mastering Study Group. Poimboeuf holds six patents in the areas of audio, video, and synchronization.",
