    "abstract": "When deciding on the width in direction of film travel of the illuminated area on the sound track (“scanning width”), a compromise has to be found between two contradictory requirements: more scanning width allows the passage of more light and gives a proportionally higher signal level for low frequencies, but it will cause an increased fall off at higher frequencies, where the scanning width covers an appreciable portion of one wave. Accordingly there exists for each frequency a scanning width with which the signal output is highest.",
