    "abstract": "The efficiency of the light production in a projection arc is determined by two main factors; first, the intrinsic brightness per unit of surface of the crater; and second, the effective area of the crater. By effective area is meant, of course, the horizontal projection of the actual crater area on a plane perpendicular to the optical axis; and consequently the angle which the carbon carrying the crater makes with the optical axis becomes an important consideration. It is at once apparent that right angle operation of any carbon is a material factor in its light producing efficiency",
