    "abstract": "Two recent events, the advent of high-definition television, and film crews joining the digital world, have demonstrated the need for engineers, technicians, and directors of photography (DPs) to have a better knowledge and understanding of each others' requirements and operating procedures. With television series switching from film to digital and an increasing number of motion pictures being shot digitally for transfer to film, inter-format compatibility is essential. The differing perspectives of electronic engineers and film crews, now working in an arguably less forgiving medium, further complicate the issue. This paper attempts to identify problem areas and provide practical image control procedures for digital and film images produced for electronic distribution. Front and rear-lit test systems are discussed, along with test chart characteristics and dynamic range issues. Colorimetry standards are compared, and discontinuous spectrum lighting problems are identified.",
