    "abstract": "The application of television to the space program has presented new problems to designers of tubes, circuitry and components. The vidicon has become an important device for translating spatial information into a time-varying signal which can be transmitted to distant receivers for reassembly into detailed pictures, or used immediately for guidance systems. Of prime importance to the systems designer are such requirements as light weight, compact size and low power which characterize the present generation of tubes. The characteristics of various vidicons and their use in present and future space programs are discussed.",
