The Grand Alliance HDTV system is being designed for both NTSC field rate 59.94 Hz and 60.00 Hz. The motivation for the use of NTSC field rate is to facilitate simulcasting as the new service is being introduced. This study investigates the possibility of transmitting NTSC at 60.00 Hz. By making assumptions and examining the potential impacts on existing consumer products as well as professional equipment, our study concludes that keeping the 59.94-Hz field rate for NTSC operation can avoid any potential adverse impact.
