Since then, the enabling technology has met with widespread acceptance, with over 140 units of the core product installed worldwide. In addition, several key building blocks have been added by the same supplier to extend the film-in-data concept, allowing the full power and flexibility of computer workstations (coupled with tremendous hardware acceleration) to be applied to the creative and post-production processes. The successful data concept can even be “tunnelled” through the high-definition video domain, allowing the major benefits of the data process to be achieved in realtime using low cost video tape storage.
